Anti Virus company SophosLabs has just released a free tool that provides detection against the Windows shortcut exploit.

The product works Windows XP/Vista/7 but not 2000.

When Windows tries to display an icon with a shortcut, the tool will intercept the request in order to validate it and give back control to the user if not found to be malicious.

Block the Windows Shortcut Exploit

The Windows Shortcut Exploit is a zero-day vulnerability in all versions of Windows that allows a Windows shortcut link to run a malicious DLL file.

The Sophos free, easy-to-use tool blocks this exploit from running on your computer.

Existing Sophos Endpoint customers are already protected from the Windows Shortcut Exploit and do not need to install this tool.

You can download the latest installer from their website here or a zip version from AfriConnect here .
